Fundraising for Murdered Abroad

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our remarkable fundraisers. We're always grateful to our supporters, who do some amazing things to raise money for Murdered Abroad, often in memory of loved ones they have lost through murder and manslaughter abroad. Some of their stories are featured below.

If you’re interested in fundraising for us, please get in touch. We can support you with fundraising materials and advice to maximise the funds you can raise.

Danny: in memory of Luke and Rita Holland

In September 2015 our good friend Luke was taken away from us. Luke lived in Berlin, and whilst walking home was shot and killed, and to this day I still can’t believe the turn of events that unfolded that night. His mum sadly took her own life in 2019.

Two years ago, two pals and I decided to run the Manchester Marathon in Luke’s name for Murdered Abroad. In 2020, I ran an Ultra Marathon (a gruelling 32 mile trail). In 2021, I have set myself the challenge of running 7 marathons in 7 days in 7 different countries in October. Each time I take on one of these challenges, I’m spurred on knowing that I’m doing it for Murdered Abroad and in memory of Luke and his mum, and in honour of Luke’s dad and the other families I have met who are supported by Murdered Abroad.

In a selfish way, I kind of wish I hadn’t come across this charity, but now I have I intend to help them as much as I possibly can.

Hannah, Di & Elliot in memory of Steve Nash

Steve Nash was a truly inspirational man to everyone who met him.  He was humble, kind and compassionate and would offer help wherever and whenever he could.  Steve was best known for his love of life, making the most out of every single minute.

In August 2016, when Steve was in Mongolia, he was targeted for his money and passport and murdered by a local man.

To honour my brother’s legacy, my daughter Hannah, her boyfriend Elliot, and I walked the Sandstone Trail Challenge on 11 May 2019, covering 34 miles/55 km from Whitchurch in Shropshire to Frodsham in Cheshire.

We raised money for Murdered Abroad.  The charity is not government-funded and relies on donations alone. The Trustees volunteer their time endlessly to work with statutory bodies and raise awareness of the complex issues faced by families and friends of those British citizens who have been murdered abroad.

Glen Daly.jpeg

In memory of Glen Daly

Our son, Glen, was killed abroad in Crete in 2009 while on holiday with his friend. Glen was 24 years old.

With all our anger, frustration, grief, we were on a lonely journey trying to seek justice. I wanted someone out there to say “we can be there to support you”. That day arrived after we finally found Murdered Abroad. When we went to one of their peer support meetings I got to meet other families and knew I wasn't the only person who was feeling the way I was.

Without Murdered Abroad, I don't know where I would be now, or what would have happened to me. I cannot thank them enough and the other bereaved families they support for just all being there for each other.

To say a very big thank you to them, my husband and I regularly raise money for this great charity, in Glen's memory. Without donations, this organisation would not be able to run to support families like ourselves. Every little helps.
