"Struggling For Justice" but we will never give up

Since 2001, Murdered Abroad has worked to improve the rights of British families bereaved by homicide abroad. We have done this by providing our own peer support service and guidance to families as well as highlighting the problems that families face. We work tirelessly with a multitude of Government and public agencies to seek improvements in their service and approach to the bereaved.

Today, marks the publication of an important report by the Victims’ Commissioner, Dame Vera Baird, that summarises many of the issues still in existence.

Murdered Abroad’s Co-Founder, Eve Henderson, worked closely with the VC’s office over many months to provide the historic background and gave our members the opportunity to share their experiences through case studies. The result is 18 Recommendations - the sheer number illustrates how complex this area is and how far we still have to go.

We welcome this Report and the light that it shines on our families’ difficulties and we will work hard to ensure the Recommendations are implemented soonest.

We would like to thank the VC and her team for exploring this area. Our heartfelt thanks also go to our incredible members; who while still grieving their loved ones, are always so willing to share their experiences, in the hope that the next bereaved family will have a slightly better time than they did.

Here’s to fairer treatment of bereaved families, more joined-up thinking, and more compassion across the board. And here’s to honouring those who lost their lives abroad at the hands of someone else.
